Pat blinks. He stares at Pran, frowning slightly. Pran hasn’t moved his lips, but Pat could swear he just heard his voice, inside his head. He is too familiar with Pran’s voice to mistake it for someone else’s.
(God, he looks like shit. Why is that still kind of attractive?)
Pat still glances at Pran. Nothing. He’s just standing there, eyes fixed forward, arms crossed tightly.
(Why is he staring? Come on Pran, ignore him! It’s too early to deal with my stupid heart.)
The dissonance between what Pat hears and what he sees is surreal. Pran’s face is unreadable. Calm. Cold. No trace of the flustered voice echoing in Pat’s mind. Is he hallucinating?
(God, even with that dumb stain on his tie, Pat still looks so good. Why do I even like him?)
Pat coughs in surprise, and Pran throws him a glare. Did Pat hear right ? Maybe it’s a dream after all.

Pat and Pran haven't see each others in years, since high school. They end up working at the same place. Rivalry ensue. Until Pat's 30th birthday. He wakes up and can miraculously hear thoughts.

Summary
Light’s lies are intricate, a perfectly spun web of wickedness and deception that cannot be figured out unless you know better. Maybe it’s the fact that L knows he’s the only one who can see behind the curtain, perhaps it makes him feel privileged or understood in some neanderthal way. Perhaps he just loves that Light would lie about the color of the sky, he’s so relentless with his falsified truths that it’s fascinating. They both know who Light is, but only L can speak the truth aloud. But Light lets him know that he’s not wrong because his eyes always sparkle with amusement, they confirm each and every one of L’s suspicions. Whether this is on purpose or not L suspects the latter, but it is still alluring that he has his own perfect match.
L loves Light's lies, they make for a perfect indulgence
