Summary
As Peeta had said on the Capitol stage so long ago, we didn’t need a fancy party or a piece of paper to prove it. But this—this intimate scene suddenly felt so necessary. We knew how we felt about each other, yes, but what I felt for Peeta was so immense that I needed the out-of-the-ordinary rituals of marriage just to scrape the surface of those feelings. We could hold a toasting ceremony every day and I would still find new things to promise him, new things to love about him, the way Peeta could paint me over and over again and capture my features differently every time.
