Summary
This is what they do. They speak in jokes and memes and let their true thoughts bleed through into the cracks that only they can read. Like sand in dusty corners, hidden but intrusive. George knows the space between Dream's words, the things he doesn't say. He can hear the change in pitch from hours and hours of practice. He's had days of calls, nights of Dream's voice floating to him across an ocean and through a speaker until George has become fluent in a language that doesn't have a name.
When George gets to Florida, he has a hard time adjusting to all the touching.

“Yeah, it’s hot.” Dream removes his hand.
“What?” George is embarrassed by how breathy he sounds.
“Your skin, it’s hot where he slapped you. That’s how you know it was hard. Your ear’s all red, too.”
George touches his ear. His cheekbone and jaw are beginning to throb dully, just a low ache that’s synced with his heartbeat. “Oh. Does it look stupid?”
“No, it’s cute.” Dream swallows. “I mean it’s– well– it just looks like you’ve been out in the cold, kind of.”
George doesn’t know what to do with that.
Sapnap slaps George at TwitchCon. Later, George finds himself in Dream’s hotel room, hopelessly in love.

As if reading his mind, George shook his head mildly. “I’m awake. I’m just…um…” He gestured vaguely to his wrist, which Dream realized with a start that George was cradling to his chest protectively. “Can you help?”

Unlike Dream, Sapnap’s perfectly compliant and just does as he’s told, because what he wants is on the same line of thought anyway. It’s so uncomplicated. He doesn’t pretend he doesn’t want to play video games with George when it’s so clearly fun and so obviously something they both want to do. They don’t talk in depth about why they want to play video games or why they want to play said video games with each other either. They just load up the damn Xbox. It’s so simple. Why does Dream have to make things so hard and complicated?

But then, after a while…it wasn’t so bad. I found a place where I could kind of belong, and I met Toro and Brian and Bob and Mikey…and you. And I figure…if I was in Hell, falling in love shouldn’t really be in the cards, should it?
So after that, I started thinking—okay, maybe this place isn’t anything I ever heard about in school or church. But then again, maybe it is. Maybe this is Purgatory. And I always had the idea that Purgatory was kind of like prison, y’know, you gotta serve your sentence and the only thing that’s gonna get you out quicker is good behavior or having friends in high places. But maybe—maybe you don’t have to just sit around waiting for someone to tell you your sentence is up. Maybe Purgatory ends when you get yourself out of it.”

“Do you ever think, that, I don’t know. Since there have been so many love stories written about us, we’re bound to- to live one out?”
Dream lost the ability to breathe. He slumped over his desk, hands crushing his headphones as close to his ears as they could press. “I…I don’t know. Maybe.” The words were right there, sitting heavy on his tongue. He had to balance them precariously, speak around them so they wouldn’t fall from his lips. “Maybe.”
Five times George is too far away for Dream to say “I’m in love with you,” and one time he’s right in front of him.

Summary
“So cold, Dream.” George shuffled closer, and between one breath and the next he was in Dream’s space. His face was the first thing to make contact, shooting a spark through Dream’s bloodstream as he pushed his nose into his chest. Then he sagged forward, all of his weight pushing Dream back into the counter, shivering arms coming up to clutch at the back of his shirt.
Dream was so startled by all of it that he just lifted his arms, hovering them over George’s shoulders. “George,” he said, feeling the sharp chill seep into his skin at every point of contact, “you’re hugging me.”
What would happen if George filmed his “Beating Minecraft Before I Freeze” video when he got to Florida? A lot of cuddles, apparently, and maybe something more.
