“Repeat yourself.” Her voice left no place for arguments, and the other Metro sitting by the foot-in-the-mouth twinky looking dude looked fucking intimidated. They fucking better be, after badmouthing Ilya in front of her. Who the fuck did they think they were, trash-talking Ilya as if they knew him at all?
“It was a private conversati—” The other metro snapped at her, J-something.

With every part of him, Ilya had bewitched Shane; the chirping, the aggressive way he played, skating circles around everyone else but Shane, the incandescent way he seemed to glow with the reflection of the ice beneath their skates; everything about him made him weak, and at the same time, it made him stronger.
Maybe that’s why, when everything settled between them, Shane started to settle too; his personality becoming more true to himself, more snippy, more petty. And most importantly, more protective of what was his.

Shane pats Parker’s shoulder, such a genuine gesture that Ilya wonders where he’s going with this. “Do a favor for me?” He leans in a little closer, physically blocking Parker from seeing Ilya.
“What?”
Shane’s smile fades away. His voice is stern, final when he answers. “Get back to your team, and step the fuck away from my husband?”
He doesn't bother to mince his words. Not tonight, with Ilya being as exhausted as he is, and not with Ilya being uncomfortable. He rarely gets to see him this outwardly protective. He expected Shane to come over, grab his hand and lead him away from the booth with some random excuse. But this—this is Shane losing his patience for all of those manners. His only concern is Ilya.

Ilya knows that, between him and Shane, he's the more affectionate of the two. He's not sure if it's because he's from Europe, where everyone greets each other with a hug and a kiss on the cheek, or if it's because he grew up so starved for love and affection that he can't do anything except show Shane how much he loves him at any chance that he has.
So, yes, he knows that he's the one most likely to kiss Shane on the cheek when he skates by him at practice or come up behind Shane when he's cooking dinner just to wrap his arms around him or fall on top of Shane while he's reading on the couch, desperate to have his skin touching Shane's.
But, Shane… Shane loves Ilya differently. It's quieter. More intentional.
