Wordlessly, Wolfwood stitches the wounds. Vash wheezes at his skin being pierced. It also seems like it’s a good time for him to babble.
"I'm glad it's me and not you,” Vash wheezes. “I don’t want you taking any more vials."
Wolfwood bites back his retort. Better than you suffering like this. He lets Vash continue to talk in his delirium if it helps distract him from the pain.
“You’re so good to me.” Vash grips the fabrics of Wolfwood’s pants.
Ridiculous. All he’s doing is making sure Vash doesn’t die out here in the desert. Wolfwood ignores him. However, can’t ignore the next words that come out of Vash’s mouth, stilling his movements.

Summary
Vash was beside Wolfwood in an instant, cocooning both of their bodies with a mass of white tendrils a second before the truck exploded. The force of the blast sent them flying several feet away. When the dust settled, Vash ended up on top of Wolfwood, ear over his heartbeat. Relief washed over him—Wolfwood is alive. What was to come next stood at the back of Vash’s mind at the sound of Wolfwood’s pulse.
Wings dissolving, Vash pulls away to see Wolfwood’s alarmed expression. And fear. Fear for Vash rather than the explosion that just happened. It’s then that Vash is reminded of the promise he made, along with a resounding headache that starts to drill into his head.

“Meryl!” Vash gasps from the ground, laughing. “You scared me! I didn’t see you there.”
Meryl could let him keep his ruse. She could tell him to watch where he steps because they can’t have him breaking an ankle. She could wish him well, roll over, and pretend to go back to sleep.
“You don’t have to do that,” Meryl says instead.
Vash cocks his head. “Do what?”
“That thing you do,” she says. “Where you act like a klutz for others’ benefit.”
Or, Meryl considers how Vash the Stampede can be clumsy one minute and frighteningly agile the next and realizes it’s by design.

a tender retelling from Meryl's perspective with some original content that so wonderfully fleshes out the deeper connection and vulnerability Vash gives in the face of genuine acceptance and love. This fic is an easy read and sooooo well written. I could see images in my mind's eye like an episode playing as I read this!!

“You’re purring because you got stabbed? Christ, Blondie, I knew you were a masochist but—”
“Not like that! Let me finish!”
Or, cats purr when they feel happy and safe or are in pain and need to self-soothe. Vash does the same. But Vash doesn’t have many moments where he feels happy and safe, so Wolfwood and Meryl only ever hear him purr when he’s injured or hurting. The first time they hear him purr from happiness, they panic.

Definitely one of the cuter Trigun fics I've read in a long time. The slow development of their threelationship from chapter to chapter makes each new purring encounter sweeter than the last.
