Summary
“And how,” Keith says, drawing Lance out of his thoughts, “would you know if I’m single?”
The noise that falls out of Lance’s mouth is a mix between a snort and a scoff, and it comes totally unbidden. Two years ago, he would’ve been mortified to be caught making such an unattractive sound in Keith’s company. But, two years ago, he thought he and Keith were becoming something.
And approximately ten months ago, when they fell into bed together, he was certain they would. He’d asked, even. Tangled up in bedsheets, heart full and warm and satisfied, he’d asked Keith if they were something.
The next day, when he woke up alone with a hastily-written sticky note on the bathroom mirror and an alert in the group that the Blade had summoned Keith in the middle of the night, Lance got his answer.
He’d been mistaken, obviously.

OR: after 10 months no-contact, Lance and Keith find themselves in the same roadside bar. Which could mean nothing, surely.

“Of course not! Is that so hard to believe? Lance, I…” Keith trailed off, eyes flicking away. “I care about you.”
And there was something in the way he said that. The way that Keith said “care” with emphasis and a significance that Lance couldn’t ignore.

Which almost explains why Kojiro finds himself sitting on a faux-leather bench in Kaoru’s piercing studio.

Kojiro nods.
“One... Two—” He punctures Kojiro’s skin with the needle, drawing a high-pitched cry from his throat.
Kojiro blinks away the tears threatening to spill, glaring at the other man, “I thought you said ‘on three’?”

“I’d never do anything to jeopardize our safety on a job! You know that Hen.”
“Maybe not on purpose,” Chim chimes in, “but, see, the thing is, when you flirt with our Buck, his brain turns off. He just bluescreens.”
“You’re flustering the poor boy, Eddie,” Hen adds. “And it’s making him dumb.”
“-er,” Chim adds.
“Wha- Buck isn’t flustered.”
Eddie is flustered. His face feels hot. He takes another sip of his coffee to give his hands something do to, but that only makes him feel warmer. Shit.
Hen levels him with the most deadpan look. “Last week he walked into a stop sign after you called him ‘big boy’ on a call.”
Eddie nearly spits out his coffee.
Or: the one where Eddie subconsciously flirts with Buck without realizing and Buck is actively trying not to have a heart attack at work about it

Eddie—gulps, looking at him, because Buck doesn’t—he doesn’t look bothered, but he doesn’t look like he’s going to get up and finish the job, either. They’re at a standstill. The air in the room feels less like pops of static and more like a heavy cover of humidity. Their eyes won’t meet.
“Uh,” Eddie manages, pointing to the door. Buck’s eyes are still somewhere past Eddie. “We should get back out there, huh?”
“Yeah,” Buck says.
…or, Buck and Eddie almost kiss. Things go about as well as you would expect them to go.
