He isn’t stupid. He knows what this is. Knows what it means to have his chest flutter every time he replays that wink.
Trouble, he tells himself. But there’s something else, too, just beneath the nerves and piqued interest. An ebb of excitement, of hope. He feels like he’s back in middle school, his heart fluttering at even the chance of maybe seeing his crush in class the next day.
And San, who has always known his world by the patterns of crop rotation and the rhythm of ferry bells, realizes that the pattern he assumed he’s loved so much might have been shattered today.
He isn’t sure he wants it to go back.

Jihoon gives a grimace of hesitation, recognising the name from his husband's stories and, well, and from the more scandal-laden columns of the morning paper. Mrs Chan had suggested much the same the other day, when they were taking stock of their paltry provisions, but Jihoon did not want to impose upon anyone’s generosity, and if his husband's myriad of petty grievances regarding his older brother were to be believed, Lord Choi would not take kindly to any imposition on his life of leisure. The man was an Alpha and a rake, and the only Omega he would look kindly upon is one he can usher out of his bedroom the next morning.
He will not give one wit that a brother of his duped a man into marrying him and made off with his dowry.
Lord knows, it might have even been his idea.

Meanwhile, Jay spent half his life trying not to look like he cared too much about everything. Especially not about Sunghoon.But sometimes it felt like the universe was playing a cruel joke on him. Like it knew exactly when to drop Sunghoon in front of him looking like that – raw edges softened by steam and sweat, eyes half-lidded with sleep, sleeves shoved up in a way that made a heat simmer in Jay’s gut.
It made him vulnerable, almost weak in the knees.
He opened his eyes again.
Still thirsty. Still annoyed. Still thinking about stupid Park Sunghoon.
Jay exhaled through his nose and muttered under his breath, “This is so stupid.”
