“Their Head of House thought it would be a good idea to invite you and not Regulus.”
At this Sirius looked up. “Is that so hard to believe?”
Walburga sniffed. “How you were the only member of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black invited evades me. Fine, you may go. Your…” Walburga twisted her mouth, “invitation states for you to be there at seven pm sharp. Go get ready. And for goodness sake do something about your hair. It looks like something a Muggle on the streets would have.”
OR: Sirius has lost his friends after that one bad decision he made involving the full moon, Remus Lupin, and Severus Snape. So he has to go to Grimmauld Place for the Christmas holidays. It's awful. It almost seems like Walburga finally broke Sirius. Then he's invited to a party. Where things get steadily worse but... really... they're not that bad. Well, Sirius thinks so. Regulus does not when he finds out.

“Oh, you have, but I think you could use some loosening up,” grinned Barty.
“Plus, hot guys! Is that not what you get at a bar? Find someone and release some of that pent-up sexual tension you keep pretending you don’t have.” Evan added.
“Guys…” Regulus complained. “I don’t want to do this. Let’s go home.”
“Suck it up, we’re going in!” chirped Barty.
OR: Evan and Barty have made it their sole mission in life to get Regulus a boyfriend. Regulus is resisting, but then he meets… James Potter at the bar he got dragged to. Hm… maybe a boyfriend wouldn’t be so bad.

If you asked a Gryffindor for a description of Regulus, they probably would’ve said, “Oh, the baby Black.”
If you asked a Slytherin for a description of Regulus, they probably would’ve said, “He’s intimidatingly smart. And the heir to the House of Black.”
If you asked any of Regulus’s friends, like Barty, Evan, or Dorcas, they would’ve said, “He always remembers absolutely everything, and makes sure it comes back to bite you.”
Barty may have added, “He thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, but ain’t no way he’s smarter than me.”
If you asked any seventh-year Gryffindor, specifically one Lily Evans, she would’ve said, “He’s… a little scary but he’s truly a good person.”
And finally, if you asked James Potter, James would’ve said, “Oh, Regulus? That’s my boyfriend.”
OR: Regulus doesn't know why James picked him over Lily when Lily was obviously so much prettier, better, smarter than him. So at a Gryffindor party James invited him to one evening, Regulus decides to go ask Lily what he's doing wrong. At 4am. He's way too sober for this.

Summary
James and Regulus ran into each other by accident at the beginning of Regulus’s sixth year. Regulus had been trying to find somewhere to hide because he was crying. Barty always teased him about being sick all the time, and this time Evan hadn’t been around to make him apologize, so Regulus ran. When he was on the seventh-floor corridor, he had been reduced to sniffling and wiping his red eyes.
Where he’d run into James Potter, Quidditch captain of Gryffindor and Sirius’s best friend.
James hadn’t laughed at him like Regulus expected. Instead, he’d held Regulus while he cried, showed him the Room of Requirement, and eventually kissed him.
Regulus had been so surprised he stopped crying. Which he supposed was James’s intention.
Or: Regulus knows something is a little off with James, but he refuses to lose this relationship. James is... the best, if tardy sometimes. But it's fine. James would never do anything to hurt Regulus.
Right?Officially seven chapters now.

Summary
Regulus has nearly lost all hope after being stuck in the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black for his entire life.
Especially when Sirius ran away three years ago.
Regulus had always thought Sirius would take him too when he ran. But no, Sirius saw an opportunity and took it.
Regulus has no idea what to do with his life now. He's waited three years. Sirius is never going to come back.
But Sirius has a great memory for things Regulus only mentioned once.
That couldn't mean anything, right?

Summary
There was another kind of fire in Regulus’ eyes now. One James knew well; he had seen it in the mirror too many times. Regulus wanted to see him break too, find out what would push him to that edge and then tip him over it.
At least they were the same in that regard.
Now it was a proper fight to see who cracked first.

Regulus Black is a control addict with a severe eating disorder.
When they meet in a mental health facility it's really no big surprise that they quickly become addicted to each other.
