When the door opened he didn’t look at her, he just quickly entered and shut the door behind him. He turned toward the apartment and jumped, not expecting her to be standing at the end of the hallway.
“Hello,” he said, standing in the entryway rather lamely and awkwardly. Almost like he was waiting for her to invite him in with open arms.
And she hated the part of her that wanted to.
“Why are you here?” She tried to keep her voice as monotone and even as possible, though he could probably still hear any annoyance or pain that made it through.
“I…” he started but trailed off, they both knew any lie wouldn’t work. They’d played this game too many times now, exchanged too many excuses to even bother. They couldn’t lie to themselves anymore about why he’d come around this late. It was just easier to follow the movements and tell the truth.
She sighed, tucking her short hair behind her ear and walking back toward the tiny table she’d just been at. “Take your boots off before you sit down. I don’t like mud-“
“I know, you don’t have to remind me."

Summary
The Eastern and Southern kingdoms have been at war with each other for over 75 years and have finally decided to call a ceasefire. But in order to do so a treaty to end the war has to be formed. They decide to meet at a neutral party's estate to draft the treaty and are forced to spend months together to ensure the safety of their people and Kingdoms, though both would rather not. Which is why Riza, Princess and acting Queen Regent to the East, is forced to spend time with the crowned Prince of the South, and merciless warrior, Roy Mustang.
However, the more time they spend together the closer they become, and soon stumble into unwanted territory for both of them that both terrifies and excites them.
