“It doesn’t make sense for me to go, dude,” Peter elaborated, watching as Mr Harrington placed stacks of permission slips on the desks at the very front, his classmates taking one and then passing the stack back. “I’m there every day, it’s just going to be some of the stuff I get to see all the time. I’ll be a Debby Downer—you’ll have much more fun without me.”
“I always forget that you can just like, walk around there whenever you want,” Ned mumbled, grabbing one of the permission slips off the stack and standing up to walk the remainder back to Mr Harrington, Peter following closely behind.

Midtown's field trip to SI, but Peter sits this one out to stay home and make rounds in the lab. Of course, absolutely nothing goes to his plan.

“So, I’m thinking we get more of your watch finished in the lab today, and then we can head up and watch a movie.” Tony’s voice echoed slightly in the hall.
“Aniara,” Peter was quick to reply, reaching into his backpack and pulling out a piece of paper, hanging onto it as he stared at Tony. “We’re still hanging this one up on the fridge, right? My A+ chemistry test.”
“Yeah, buddy,” Tony reassured him. “What’s Aniara?”
“It’s a Swedish sci-fi movie,” Peter explained. Tony’s hand easily found its way to Peter’s head, giving his hair a quick ruffle. “I’ve been meaning to watch it. It’s set in a dystopian future where people have to leave Earth to search for a habitable planet, but one of the ships strays off course.”
“Huh, dark,” Tony mused.

Peter couldn’t believe what his life had become. Ned often commented on the absurdity of it all, but if only Ned knew the true extent of the craziness. It wasn’t every day one found out that they were the sole heir and child of a billionaire who also happens to be a superhero, so there was that. Peter still really couldn’t believe it himself; it just sounded insane—he sounded insane when he said it. He was Tony Stark’s son. His actual son, biologically. He still had a hard time remembering that Parker was one of his middle names now; he was a Stark, and he wasn’t an orphan.

Tony looked exhausted as he spelled it out. “Just….come over for dinner.”
Peter blinked at him, wondering if he’d misheard the man or whether the head injury that Tony had received from the fight was making him go crazy–because surely, for the love of god, Tony Stark did not just invite him round for dinner.

The media eats it up, and Tony rolls with it, because why not? It's good PR. The narrative writes itself. And everyone loves a good redemption arc... All he had to do was borrow the kid, smile for the cameras, and hand him back when the buzz dies down. Easy. What could possibly go wrong?
