Flick struggles to balance college and work and his mental health starts to suffer, C.J.'s livestream isn't taking off like he had hoped, and money seems to always be in short supply. Living together changes their relationship dynamic and reveals potential incompatibilities, putting their future in peril. Will they be able to reconcile their differences and forge a shared life together, or are they better off breaking up and just being friends?

C.J. has had a crush on Flick since the day he moved in across the street when they were eleven, but it takes Flick quite a bit longer to recognize his own feelings for C.J. The summer before their senior year of high school, things come to a head; after a few awkward dates with Cherry, Flick realizes it's actually C.J. that he wants, and meanwhile C.J. decides he can't keep this crush a secret any longer. Once they finally confess their feelings for each other, they have a few weeks of blissful young love, but as the school year approaches, they must confront their classmates' reactions to their new relationship, which is not what either of them expected. Throughout all this, Flick and Nat navigate their own complicated family relationship as Flick grows up and reflects on some traumatic childhood experiences. As time goes by, Flick and C.J. consider what their relationship—in all its forms—has meant to them, and what they want it to mean going forward.
