    Summary

“Not quite yet,” Charles snags Edwin by the elbow before he can round the corner. “I hate to do this, really do, but I have to check.” Edwin breaks eye contact at once. He no doubt knows exactly what Charles is about to ask. “Are you entirely sure that there won’t be any demons about?”

    **

Edwin and Charles infiltrate a magical auction with one goal: to save a kidnapped infant from being sold off to the highest bidder.

Things, predictably, do not go to plan.

A sporadically maintained journal of wanting to die and not dying anyway, and also how hot it is to move to Louisiana in the summer.

But as much as Sam probably needs to deal with that feeling, that jealous guard dog feeling inside of him that says my new friend, mine, stay back when other people get close to Bucky, he's happy to experience the other side of it, the small satisfied rush he gets when Bucky's sprawled out in his family home, or mowing the lawn, or fixing the sink so it stops dripping, comfortable in a short sleeve shirt even around the kids. Like Bucky belongs here, with them. With Sam, in the new life he's building.

    Summary

Edwin sighed and unfolded his hands to push his hair back. “I suppose this was inevitable,” he allowed.
Charles beamed. “That’s the spirit. Look at it this way — you’ve never been to a house party before, and here’s one that’s right up your alley!”
“Ominous and full of peril?” Edwin asked sardonically.
“Exactly!” Charles agreed. “This way you get to go to a party you’ll actually like, because it’s actually a mystery. And once you solve the mystery, the party ends. I couldn’t have thrown you a better one myself.”

    Summary

The thing is, while Edwin appreciates Charles’ chivalry in pretending it’s nothing more than a bit of snow, the fact of the matter is that it’s a lot more than that. The whole wretched business started two weeks ago when they were breaking into an abandoned witch’s workshop, and Charles broke a little glass bottle labelled, ominously, The Shove. Edwin had opened his mouth to warn Charles, but he wasn’t quick enough, and they both caught a faceful of chalky, overpoweringly rose-scented powder that made Edwin sneeze for the time since 1916. He had hoped that time might have diminished its efficacy, but it wasn’t long before the effects began to make themselves known. Over the last two weeks, it’s become clear that not only is the spell still quite functional, but it appears to be contriving to put them in—Edwin feels hotly embarrassed all over to think of it—romantic situations.
