"What do you want me to say?" Harry shouted, suddenly filled with the same irrational anger that'd been so hard to shake since Cedric's death. He jumped to his feet, unable to sit any longer. "What would you have me do? I couldn't make myself break skin, okay? Is that so hard to believe?"

Under the stairs at the moment, though not for long. She's about to receive a letter that will make things a whole lot worse before they get better.
***“I am not in the habit of returning house points once they have been lost, Miss Potter. Among us little people at least, choices have consequences. If that’s all —”
“It’s not that, sir,” she hastened to explain, surprising him once more. Most students were only too eager to latch onto anything that resembled a dismissal from his presence, and no one — ever — interrupted him. “I-I understand. I just… I live with my aunt and uncle, you see. They’re muggles.”
Snape didn’t answer, but the girl plowed doggedly on.
“Well, th-there was an a-accident at the end of the summer, sir. S-some of my potions ingredients spilled in my trunk, and I didn’t know w-what to do... M-my relatives thought I might get help at school?”
She swallowed hard, then reached into her bag and pulled out a horror of a textbook. The entire mold-stained cover slid off as she moved to set it on his desk, and a handful of ragged pages scattered as the book block landed on his desk with a damp thud.

"Point me Harry Potter," he whispered, his wand buzzed and he started walking down the street disillusioning himself. He cast magic sensing spells around to make sure no one from the ministry had yet been notified about the events of the evening. Severus was frantic about finding the boy. He must be exhausted after that, how far had he managed to go?
He finally spotted Potter sitting on a low wall breathing heavily, with his trunk and a bird cage at his feet. He breathed a sigh of relief. He was halfway down the street from the boy when he sensed something. Magic that was half human, half predatory somewhere very close to the boy and right that instant he saw the boy slip. Panicked, not sparing a second to think, Severus apparated next to the boy grabbed him and his belongings and apparated them straight back to the alleyway in Spinner's End.

“I must not have heard you correctly, Headmaster,” Severus said flatly.
“You did, my boy. This isn’t only a favour to me, you understand.”
“But there must be trust," Severus insisted. "A bond… or some sort of relationship between mentor and pupil for Occlumency to be taught correctly! The only bond the brat and I share is one of mutual loathing.”
“Now, Severus, you are an adult and a Hogwarts professor. Surely, you can find a way to mend broken bridges.”
Broken bridges? Broken bridges? There had never been a "bridge" to begin with! Not with Potter, the carbon copy of his school bully, who spoke, acted, believed himself so superior to anyone else he might as well be the second coming of his father. There had always only been damp planks slogging down a river which separated them on two opposite banks. No bridge to speak of.

With Christmas break coming close to an end, the majority of the students at Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry had already returned to the school. Taking advantage of enjoying the last snowfall of winter. There were grand snowball fights that went on for hours, marvelous villages made out of ice and snow and even the Great Lake was made into a ice skating rink with its wake still frozen over creating true a winter wonderland … till the ugly catch of playing in the cold caught up to the students who took the risk of exposing themselves to its chill.
Not even Harry Potter was spared from catching the dreadful illness, spreading throughout the school like wildfire. But that doesn't mean that Severus Snape should be a candidate to play nursemaid to the famous Boy Who Lived, but when does Dumbledore ever listen to him. The Headmaster of all people should have known that the notorious distant Potion Professor was infected too, infected with a chronic bleeding heart.

He threw himself down, starting to gather the broken pieces with his bare hands, not taking notice of his hands and fingers getting cut in the process. He was quietly, but desperately saying “I’m sorry, so sorry, I’ll fix it, please I’m sorry.” while tears flooded down his cheeks.
He almost screamed when arms were put around him, hands stopping him from picking up more pieces, drawing him into a lap. He could barely hear the voice speaking to him, in a low and gentle tone.
His heartrate was too loud in his ears, deafening any other sound.“Hush, child, it is of no matter, breathe.”
or, Harry has a long way to go before he is rid of the Dursley's abuse. Some days are good, some are bad. But Severus is always going to be there for him.

“Harry,” Severus sighed, coming to stand next to him. “What did I say about having the snake at the breakfast table?”
“Her name isn’t “the snake,” Harry murmured resentfully. Severus had gotten Noodle at the request of Dumbledore, but he obviously wasn’t the biggest fan of Harry’s new friend.
“Danger Noodle,” Severus said through gritted teeth, “needs to be put away while your classmates are trying to eat.”
“I’m sorry,” Harry sighed. “I just wanted everyone to meet her. It’s her first day and she’s really shy!”
“I highly doubt she can feel such a complex emotion as shyness, given that she is a reptile-” Harry moved his hands to cover Noodle’s nonexistent ears, glaring at his father’s lack of sensitivity, “- but even so, I’m sure she’ll be quite alright if you put her in your pocket while you eat your breakfast.”
“But- that feels so mean. And she’s hungry. You're going to your office now, aren’t you? Couldn’t you take her with you? She needs her rats.”
Severus stared at Harry, likely trying to surmise if he was being serious. Despite being a Slytherin, it had become quite clear in the past few days that Severus was not at all fond of snakes.

Neglect can be one of the most painful forms of abuse, being ignored by your guardians when all you want is love hurts. No one seems to care if Harry lives or dies so he spends a lot of time wandering around Little Whinging on his own. His friendly neighbor seems to think that this is dangerous. If only someone paid enough attention to Harry to tell him that his neighbor is a little too friendly...

“This smells fishy,” Severus muttered out loud.
“Fishy?” Harry questioned, wrinkling his nose as if sniffing the air. “It doesn’t smell fishy to me.”
Oh, sweet Merlin, the first years could still be so sweet and precious and Severus was going to kill the son of a bitch who had stolen the innocence from this one.
