How do you ask this sort of thing? Kanji tries to articulate hey if you're a guy do you still like guys or is it girls or some other thing somehow and is it related or is that a separate deal, fumbles this halfway out his mouth, and somehow comes out with, “Do you have, uh, feelings?”
“What?” Naoto asks, too befuddled to even look offended.

so naoto's a girl, and kanji's a boy. that means it's fine if he asks her up to the roof, right? wait he hasn't even confessed yet why does she suddenly look so uncomfortable
(or: naoto investigates the mystery of the missing gender with the help of his trusty watson, being kanji, who didn't know he was a watson.)
