Summary
“If you didn’t die, then I didn’t die,” Stephanie says, suddenly and quietly.
Now, Dick turns his body fully to face her. His knee touches hers. He reaches a hand out toward her shoulder, but doesn’t move that final inch.
She shifts so his hand fits warmly in place. She doesn’t look at him.
“Leslie said your heart stopped,” he says.
She has a rueful smile on her face, sardonic and sour.
“And B said yours stopped,” she returns.
Stephanie and Dick died. They (start to) deal with that.

“Of course! Damian and I were gonna eat lunch and then play some video games until it’s time to prep for patrol, if you wanted to join us?”
“Hn.” “Tsk.”
Dick knew as soon as the words left his mouth he had said the wrong thing. Suddenly, Damian’s stiff posture was all that of a boy poised for fight or flight and the strained smile on Bruce’s face fell. Alfred’s poker face was solidly in place, but Dick still noticed the way his hands had stilled briefly as he was placing sandwiches onto their plates.
“Or not!” Dick was quick to try and deescalate the situation.
“No, no, it’s fine. I’ll just be in the cave. You can… play.”
It’s hard to deescalate a situation you don’t know the root cause of, apparently.
Bruce is Batman again. The transition is... less than smooth.

“So why are you trying now? Because B is gone?” She didn’t mean for the words to be as sharp as they were, but they landed like batarangs nonetheless, whistling in the air until they hit their mark.
Dick’s entire posture seemed to deflate. His legs had been kicking idly, but suddenly they were still. His hands, which had been flying through the air as he spoke, were limp in his lap. He was the quietest Steph had ever heard him when he answered and she had to strain to listen.
“Honestly, that’s how it started. And then I saw how talented you are with my own eyes and how well you get along with everyone, from criminals to victims to, yes, Robin, and how driven and smart and excitable and funny you are and…”
“And what?” she asked, her patience from earlier gone.
“You reminded me of why I made Robin in the first place.”
Stephanie Brown was a Robin. Dick finally tells her what that means, and apologizes for a few things, too.

Summary
Stephanie is not the same teenager she once was, running around craving any small validation from the big black Bat, hoping he (or any of them) cared about her even a little bit, desperately chasing these minuscule moments of recognition and twisting them into something bigger. This is not enough.
She looks over at him and his easy grace, his kind face. She would have killed for this, for someone to come help her when she is sick and her life feels like it is falling apart around her, for this stupid knight in bat armour to whisk her away to fantasy land (it’s Connecticut, she needs to calm down) and buy her food and medicine. But not anymore. She’s not that little girl anymore.
Steph is sick and Dick half-succeeds in helping.
