As a grease monkey turned college freshman, Dean's constantly three seconds away from being stressed out of his mind. It hardly helps that he's finally figuring out his sexuality in his thirties.
What might help with that stress is a little phone number (and a big credit card bill). If he can't figure out how to be bisexual in person, he can at least give it a go over the phone, right?

“Hey, uh,” Dean says, clearing his throat. “Thanks for coming up here with me, man. I know you never liked the guy, but ... when I heard you were in town, I....” Dean trails off, not sure where he was going with that thought.
Cas looks over at him. “It’s no trouble,” he says. His voice is low and rough, but quiet and gentle in that way it always was before. It’s the same way that used to make Dean’s chest ache. “And I’m sorry for your loss.”

When his childhood best friend Cas agrees to help Dean clean out John’s old cabin, the two of them are forced to reconcile old feelings after a thunderstorm leaves them trapped there overnight.

More than a little drunk, watching Jim laugh his way through a story of some prank he’d pulled on his brother as a kid, the way his mouth moved when he spoke and his eyes crinkled at the edges when he smiled, Len couldn’t stop himself from blurting out: “I love you.”
Jim stopped mid-sentence, turning to face Len as his expression shifted from nostalgic mirth to something softer, a little uncertain.
“Yeah?” he replied, his tone hopeful as he tried to maintain his lighthearted smile.
Len shifted on his elbows and looked up at Jim where he sat, his own smile widening as he responded, “Yeah.”

Summary
There were all these little hopes and musings Crowley buried so deep in his heart it ached to bring them out into the light to catalogue their faults and flaws, and each time Aziraphale sought him out, or asked his opinion on some weighty manner that was hanging on him, or even just smiled, those little wishings grew bigger and bigger, pressing in on him until he felt as if he was being crushed.
“Princes do not fall in love with gardener boys,” he told himself one night, staring into the shard of looking glass he kept on a shelf, hoping it would help, hoping that hearing it out loud would make him believe it, would help him put all these ridiculous notions behind him.
It didn't work.
Crowley and Aziraphale, the gardener's boy and the prince, meet as children and develop an unlikely friendship.
By the time they're twenty, everything has changed.

To love is to heal -- that is to say it is messy and inconsistent. Crowley struggles to find closure for past wounds, to yield to the idea that he could be loved as he has loved.
It all comes to a head between relentless nightmares about God and an apple tree that won't grow apples.
Luckily, Aziraphale is there to catch him should he Fall once more.
