It's a normal thing, to notice another woman's nails. She tells herself that much whenever she catches herself staring at Max's long thick fingers, how the blue makes her skin look even paler, how much longer the digits seem with the nail length Max is so fond of.
And it's also very normal, completely so, to notice that Max's usual full blue set is different when they go to Miami after the sudden spring break in the 2026 season. It's a glaring difference that makes Charles do a double take when she spots it during media day. There, on Max's right hand, her ring and middle finger are not painted blue. No, they are red. Ferrari red, because Charles would recognize the shade painted on her acrylics with her eyes closed at this point. And for once, they are much shorter.

"Just pretend I'm someone else," Charles spits out, giving permission so Max does not have to feel guilty about it afterwards. So Charles can tell to himself, he condoned it so he can not be bothered by anything Max does. Maybe Max will say someone else's name and this way Charles will be ready.
