With only a narrow eye slit and a nose guard, the helmet erased all identity of the man under the armour, but Bucciarati recognised him all the same: the man was a Knight of the Lily just like him. Judging by the swirling engraving of lilies dripping from the gorget, halfway down the breastplate, he had some standing within their knighthood.
Bucciarati froze as his gaze caught on the white lily - an actual, live lily, - the knight wore in the loop of his belt. It was perfectly innocent, yet completely damning.
“Brother, how---”
The other knight proved to be far less genial and Bucciarati found himself knocked off balance, reeling back from a blow he hadn’t seen coming.
