Summary
With a very calculated and deliberate gesture, Harrow threw her finger forward and dug it between two of Gideon’s ribs. The taller woman’s jaw flew open and her body bent over on its own, to which she hugged herself without a sound, every inch of her too focused on the pain she was feeling to react in any other way.
“Every second I spend in your company is a knife buried in my chest."
Gideon looked up, eyes half closed in a grimace, to find Harrow’s face to be at the same height as hers now that she was folded in over herself, courtesy of those infernal sticks she called fingers.
“Every second I am forced to converse with you ( - who the fuck talks like that, painfully interceded Gideon, dizzy with pain - ) I feel my IQ being slowly dragged down by your pathetic attempts at communication. Did you know? I actually kind of admire your ability to ignore the ancient purpose of words for information sharing, and instead use them to somehow worsen the preexisting silence. Yet my admiration is nowhere near grand enough for me to want to stand your company for even one second more than necessary.”
Gideon found her breath again and shakily replied with a grunt. “Cool. I’ll see you at five then.”

“I think I understand what’s going on.”
Well. . . hopefully not, but Reki figured that would save him a lot of time explaining. And if she did know, then she didn’t seem as upset as he had anticipated, which was definitely a plus.
She continued. “I know you’ve been going out every night on dates—”
Dates?
“—with Langa—”
With Langa?
…
Or, Reki’s mother makes an assumption about her son’s relationship status that she probably shouldn’t and everything spirals. -

Summary
“That’s your dad?” Jingyi asks slowly.
“Yes?” Sizhui sits up a little, propped on his elbows. He feels wrong-footed, and glances back at the picture for some sort of hint as to what’s going on. “Why?”
Jingyi sits up, too, and hands the phone back.
“Your dad is my dad’s ex-husband,” he says bluntly. “Come on. Get your jacket. We’ll need ice cream for this one.”
It’s a very strange way to have your life turned completely upside down, Sizhui thinks.

Summary
An ill-fated parent teacher conference reunites Jin Ling's wayward uncle with Sizhui's father. AKA: A matchmaking disaster as told by Jin Ling, Sizhui, and Jingyi.
Jin Ling knows he’s in deep trouble even before reporting to Headmaster Lan’s office, but the words “your uncle will be here soon” still strike the fear of God in him. His only consolation is that Jingyi and Sizhui’s guardians are also in the office, Jingyi’s mom already lecturing her sheepish-looking son. Lan-ayi only stops when Sizhui’s father, a quiet and tall man in white, clears his throat, causing her to engage him in one-sided smalltalk.
This is a disaster. Jin Ling had spent such a nice break at home for Mid-Autumn Festival, and Fairy’s presence had soothed his homesickness after returning to boarding school in Gusu. He knows pets aren’t allowed, but who is going to report Jin Ling when his father pays good money for a private suite in the dorms? Then there was the incident with Jingyi, a box of mooncakes, and a door left ajar. Long story short, he spent an hour chasing Fairy down the halls with Sizhui and Jingyi before finding his dog nosing up to a very angry Headmaster Lan.
