Summary
Because even if Will might have everyone in the room fooled, even if everyone thinks he’s happy and relaxed, he still doesn’t have Mike fully convinced. Because he’s still glancing at the staircase every few minutes. His shoulders still tighten when he hears a floorboard creak. And somehow his eyes still flicker toward the dark hallway anytime anyone asks him a question, like he’s incapable of answering without a script.
Nobody else notices this.
Mike wishes that he didn’t, either.
Everyone thinks Will Byers is lucky to have married the successful and well respected Carlton Van Note. Will believes he should feel so, too.
Except— no one sees what goes on behind closed doors, not when Carlton drinks too much, not when jealousy turns into rage, not when Will learns how to fawn just to keep the peace that only now echoes in the empty, silent halls. No one sees the physical evidence left on his body after violent nights, hidden under long sleeves and careful smiles. And for years, Will has gotten good at pretending.
Unfortunately, Mike Wheeler knows him all too well.

Summary
It was as if Will was the sun – addictive to look at but painful to do, as well. Like when your parents warned you not to look at the sun because you could go blind, but curiosity and just the sense of knowing you shouldn’t causes you to do so anyway. And though it hurt and he knew he should look away, Mike couldn’t tear his gaze away from Will until his chest tightened and he was yet again, breathless.
Holy shit, Will took Mike’s breath away way too often.
An AU where Mike and Will sign up for a surfing competition without the knowing of the other and they find out later that they are pit against each other. Not only are they each other’s opponents now, but now they are naturally each other’s worst enemies.
And even now when they are meant to hate each other, they can’t help but fall in love again. Even when the tide itself is telling them it is not meant to be.

His hazel eyes locked on me and no one else.
“Even though he. .he isn’t like me. And . . he’s just my Tammy.”
Though this was a serious moment, I couldn’t help but think. . .who the hell is Tammy? Despite that, Will just sat and stared at me, his eyes glued on mine and even though I wanted to avoid eye contact, to look away, I just stared back.
And then something inside of my brain just. . . clicked.

When I met him on that swing set in kindergarten, I felt like my life began. And that day in the quarry, seeing his lifeless body on that stretcher and being carried out of the water, I felt my heart stop. But I never said any of that. Just more unsaid words that I never found the courage to say to him, but should’ve. Maybe if I said what I really needed to, maybe everything would’ve been different now.
But, Eleven was my girlfriend. Eleven was the person I was meant to be in love with. Except. . .I didn’t feel that way, not for her. No, never for her. But for him. For Will.

MAJOR SPOILERS TO S5 E7 of Stranger Things.
Mike has been in love with Will since as long as he could remember. Except, did he realize this too late? Because one second, Will is looking at him like he hung the stars himself, and the next he is calling him his 'Tammy'.
He realizes in the past years he's been just too scared. Scared to voice his opinions or feelings. There's just so much left unsaid. And Mike finally decides it's time to say everything he meant to all those years ago.
And this time, he'll make sure he does it right.

“Just saying, if you’re taking another hit, you should share it with me,” Mike says, and Will slowly tilts his head, drinking in every word. “It just makes sense. Like, mathematically.”
Will’s reddened eyes narrow, bewildered. “Mathematically?”
“If there’s two hits left, we’d each only get one,” Mike explains. “But if we shotgunned, we’d both get two.” God, this is the best idea he’s had in ages. He should’ve stolen Will’s weed, like, months ago. “That’s like, bang for your buck. This is simple math, Will Byers. Keep up.”
In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.
So, they get a little high. Mike is very normal about all of it.
