Summary
One of the fragments of Wei Wuxian's soul, splintered during the first siege of the Burial Mounds, uses the energy released by the Yin Tiger Tally and flees backwards through time to another moment where Wei Wuxian was close to death – after the fall of Lotus Pier, at the hands of Jiang Wanyin.
Knowing how his first life will end, Wei Wuxian decides to hide his survival, and leave the cultivation world behind.

“Wait,” he said. “Give – give him yours? Wouldn’t that – leave you – ”
Lan Xichen smiled. It was a gentle smile, a raw, wounded smile. “It will be worth it, if it saves Wangji’s life.”

Summary
Wei Wuxian grits his teeth, knowing he has no other choice. Not if it means Lan Zhan’s life. Besides, the Cloud Recesses has the best library and a long history of dealing with curses. It’s the most logical choice, even if he’d like to punch logic in the face right now.
“Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan asks.
He gives him a grim smile. “Looks like you’re finally getting your wish, Lan Zhan.”
Lan Zhan stares back at him, expression blank.
“I’m coming to Gusu with you.”

Wei Wuxian managed to sit up. It hurt, but he didn’t feel as light-headed as he had earlier. He looked at his brother, and despite his best efforts, their eyes met. He saw anger and pain and grief, but in that moment there was also a grim understanding. Wei Wuxian hauled himself out of bed and said, “Wen Qing, take your brother and leave through the back. Jiang Cheng and I will stall them.”
“What? No!” Wen Ning protested. “You’re in no shape to - ”
“It doesn’t matter,” Wei Wuxian said. “We’re useless now. We can’t avenge our family. We can’t protect our sister. We can’t do much of anything, but we can buy a few minutes for the two of you to get out of here.”

Summary
Wei Wuxian, the Yiling Patriarch, demonic cultivator and perpetrator of the massacre at Qiongqi Way, destroys the Stygian Tiger Amulet three days after his nephew’s one-month ceremony.
His family's safety has been assured: Jiang Cheng is in command of Lotus Pier, Jiang Yanli, Jin Zixuan, and Jin Ling are ensconced in Koi Tower. The Wen Remnants will be secluded and guarded in the Cloud Recesses, where Wei Wuxian trusts Lan Wangji to look after them, even when Lan Qiren disapproves.
Wei Wuxian destroys the amulet before negotiations over his own life start, which may, in retrospect, have been foolishly shortsighted.

In which Wei Wuxian survives a negotiated cease-fire, the Yin Iron is destroyed, and being alive when you expected to be dead is much harder than anyone expected.

Wen Chao is not having a great day. On a drunken escapade he ends up in Nie territory. After a heated incident with the thugs protecting the brothel he spent the night in, he is saved by Nie Mingjue-and then promptly attacked by Nie Mingjue once his identity is revealed. His problems quickly escalate from a bad hangover to an eminent diplomatic disaster. Wen Chao and Nie Mingjue work together to prevent a war from breaking out by uncovering a secret from Wen Ruohan's past-and get to know each other better in the process.

Summary
Some scholars of resentment believed that strong enough resentment could bind souls together, both before and after death. Some further believed that, were this resentment to be tempered with some other powerful emotional energy, it could become magnified to the point that it could bend the laws of the natural world, even those governing space and time.
Or, Jin Guangyao and Nie Huaisang find themselves thrown back in time to the end of the Sunshot Campaign, each determined to outmaneuver and destroy the other.

In Nie Huaisang’s opinion, his brother’s strange behavior had started right around the time of his marriage - which he supposed was reasonable enough.
After all, it wasn't as if everyone hadn't known that Nie Mingjue had long been firmly against marrying, so it was really no surprise that he was acting so strangely now after the Nie sect elders had conspired behind his back to get him married off regardless of his own wishes in that regard.
("You're not seriously proposing that I marry a Wen," Nie Huaisang’s brother said blankly, so horrified as to have forgotten even his anger. "We're practically on the brink of war with them!")

Summary
Wei Wuxian fell... and landed on a sidewalk 600 years in the future. Right in front of Lan Zhan and Lan Xichen, modern cultivators on their way home from a cultivation conference.
A surprising amount of historical information has been lost to time - some due to natural destruction, some due to rampant revisionism. In particular, the true identity of the Yiling Laozu has been erased from history, with no sect willing to claim him and everyone eager to hide any ties they once had to him.
As Wei Ying helps the Lans fill in the missing pieces of history, Lan Zhan knows there are things he’s not telling them. He also knows that it doesn’t matter what those secrets are; nothing will keep him from standing at Wei Ying’s side.
Eventually, Wei Wuxian has to face the fact that he can’t correct some of history’s most important oversights without coming clean about his identity. Proving to the world that he is who he says he is takes them to Lanling, where they unearth history even he didn’t know about.
