Summary
In no world was Bilbo Baggins supposed to be at a dwarven ball halfway across Arda, it simply wasn't done! Led by the strange mark on his arm and a curious wizard, who promised that the answer lay in the dwarven Kingdom of Erebor, Bilbo left his home and comfort behind in search of answers. However, upon accidentally meeting the King of Erebor mid-waltz, Bilbo is lead to realize that this whole situation has just gotten a good deal more complicated.

He fought death the way a man fights for his life in the middle of a raging storm clinging with bloodied nails to the last fragments of a world that was crumbling beneath his feet. There was nothing glorious about it. No banners snapping in the wind, no heroic hymns to accompany his suffering. It was an intimate, brutal, and silent war waged in the darkness of his own spirit. Every breath was torn from the void by sheer force of will. Every heartbeat was a challenge hurled at the abyss that waited patiently just a few steps away.
And from that uncertain edge where life and death blurred into one another, he lifted his voice toward the sky, hoping that one day someday everything would finally be better.
So yes… this was more dream than anything else. The pillow told me so.
