It was good to see him, she thought. She didn’t expect to feel it; the ache that had filled her heart and soul over the past few months somehow felt less – it was still there, and probably would never truly leave, but it finally felt like maybe she would be able to breathe. Fighting against the suffocating feeling that loomed over her life seemed to shift back at the sight of him, as if simply seeing him had pushed it into retreat.
The worst feeling a person could possibly have during the holidays is loneliness. Caroline is drowning in it at home and she can think of only place to go if she wants to escape it.
