“You can boil potatoes in 20 minutes,” Jess says.
“She cut, seasoned, and roasted them in 20 minutes,” Lupe clarifies. Jess closes her mouth.

Lupe pondered for a moment, squinting her eyes and weighing the question. Jess almost laughed at how seriously she was taking it.
Then Lupe pulled Jess forward by the collar of her shirt and kissed her hard. She was rough and warm and tasted of smoke, beer, and laughter. Every inch of Jess’s body that was touching Lupe tingled with an electric buzz. Jess pressed back and let her lips part slightly, a heady rush of excitement making her dizzy. Far too soon, Lupe broke it off and pulled back, grinning like a satisfied cat.
