“I’m Aleksander,” he continues and she nods as if that explains why she’s in this strange room and why he opened the door because—
“Where is Matthias?” she asks, voice trembling just enough that she knows he noticed. “I was with him last night, I don’t—” she cuts herself off, shaking her head. It’s all just so confusing and her head has started to throb dully. “I don’t know how I got here. I don-don’t remember.”
Aleksander steps forward and when Alina doesn’t shy away he disentangles her hand from her dress where she’d been anxiously wringing it and leads her out of the room, throws a “Let’s go find him” over his shoulder with a wink and a smile. His hand is warm around hers and she clings to him trotting along to keep up with his long strides.

If she knew how to want.“Why do you call me Miss Starkov?” She asks instead, letting her senses be dulled by the scent of his cologne and the strong fingers on her jaw, the intoxicating proximity of him. Aleksander’s lips quirk up into a smile, his grip tightening ever so slightly as he pulls her closer, and she goes, like a moth to a flame.
“Names have meaning,” Aleksander shrugs a little, the movement so natural and easy, that for a moment Alina envies him. Envies and desires this man, who has everything at his fingertips, who knows how to take and take — all Alina knows how to do is give. “Soon enough, Miss Starkov, I’m sure I’ll have yours.”

There are few things that put Grisha women in the moods like the one Alina is in: monthly cycles (unlikely, he thinks, given that according to the healer’s, the tonics that the women drink stop them completely, and he watches Alina drink one every morning with her breakfast), gossip and in-fighting (also unlikely, given that Aleksander knows everything that goes on in the Little Palace, and Zoya has been gone for months), which leaves only one option.
It has something to do with sex.

OR: The Netflix show gave us the glorious little detail of the Darkling having a giant mirror in his bedroom at the foot of his bed and I, for one, don't think we as a fandom use that information nearly enough. So this is me... using that information. This is set during Alina's time at the Little Palace during "Siege and Storm," but uses elements of both book and show canon.
