Dustin was drunk. But for a moment, he seemed to regain his clarity. The living room was lit only by a faint, soft light. He looked at Will, dead serious.
«You should come back, Will. I’m really worried about Mike. He seems lost without you. Like he’s losing his mind or something.»
«I think— I think he’s depressed. Like you said, it’s about Eleven and… and…»
Dustin poured himself another glass of vodka. That was his last comment on the subject.
«I’m not going to get in the middle, Will, and I can’t force you to do anything. I’m just saying… Mike’s losing it. And I think he needs you.»

Erica hums. She crosses her arms. “He hugs you a lot.”
“Well—yeah… W-why?” Will feels confused. These are all good things, right? Erica looks like a detective working on a mystery.
She shrugs. “Just curious.”
The New Years party is coming up, and Will is excited to celebrate with his friends, including Mike. Mike is Will’s favourite person, it’s just that… sometimes, Mike does weird things to him. But it’s okay, because Mike loves Will. It’s just their special secret, and Will pinky promised. He can’t break a pinky promise.

There’s a loud clatter as Mike Wheeler springs back from the phial of Amorentia after smelling it like it’s about to bite him, his hip slamming into the edge of a nearby desk. The impact sends it wobbling, and a potion book skids off the surface, hitting the floor with an unceremonious thud.
Mike glares at the book as if it personally offended him, making no move to pick it up.
Then he looks up—and catches Will’s eyes.
His face collapses instantly, twisting into something between horror and grief, and he drags his hands over his face like that might undo whatever just happened.
“Oh my god,” he says, muffled. “I’m so screwed.”
“What the actual fuck, Mike?” Max says flatly.
