Will cannot live if Henry is killed because of the Hivemind. He finds a different way to defeat him.
When it becomes apparent that the party will not win the final battle, Will channels Vecna's powers and traps himself and Henry inside of his mind, believing that despite the initial rejection there is still good in Henry... Will just has to give him whatever he wants in order to draw it out.

Summary
Since the Byers’ arrival in Hawkins, Vecna had been reaching out to Will, no matter how hurt and weak. Will could feel he’s being drained by the entity, like his life force was being sucked out of his body slowly. And when Vecna was finally healed, it chose him as its fifth victim.
Will Byers escaped the trance without the want to, but instead of returning to reality, he landed on the doorstep of the Creel house, in 1959, right before young Henry Creel executed his plan.

He stayed behind so Eleven could live, so Mike could live, so everyone could be saved. Joyce Byers couldn’t. Grief took her life, leaving Jonathan hollow and bitter, a ghost forced to keep breathing. Just like that, the Byers family was erased, and with them, the version of Hawkins that once felt like home.
Mike refuses to heal. He refuses to move on. His mind unravels quietly, day by day, until he vanishes from everyone’s life, carrying the weight of a love he never got to acknowledge, refusing to bury. When Jonathan says something in grief and spite that will haunt Mike forever, Mike makes a choice; if Will is trapped in memory, then memory is where Mike will live.
