Summary
“I’ll be okay.” Adam whispered, “I’m tough as fucking nails, dude.”
“And about as soft as a pillow.” Lawrence said sadly. It wasn’t a jab, it was an acknowledgment of Adam’s true nature. His empathy, his humanity. Something he should’ve lost a long time ago but never did, something he managed to cling onto even in the darkness of it all.
It was an acknowledgment of Adam’s heart.
“Not everyone knows that.” Adam replied, his hand reaching up to grab Lawrence's. He intertwined their fingers, kissing his boyfriend’s knuckles gently.
“They will after this, you know that, right?” Lawrence asked. Adam shrugged.
“As long as Daniel’s okay, I don’t give a shit what they know and what they don’t.” Adam stated.

Summary
If Buck was the sun, Eddie was Icarus. Buck didn’t have wings, but he soared. Eddie had wings, and he fell once he got too close to the sun. His wings burnt up, and Buck gained his own. He was now soaring above everybody, leaving them in the dust he’d left behind with the power of his departure, he would be smiling, he would be screaming out of joy. Because he had made it, he had gotten free of the shackles he was bound to, even if sometimes those shackles didn’t seem too bad. Even if he didn’t feel like being grounded was too bad. Buck grew his wings, and Eddie’s burnt away. And one day, one day in the future he’d never remember having wings at all. He’d never remember the pain of those wings burning away, sending him plummeting to the ground. Buck grew his wings, and Eddie lost his.

Eddie chuckled at first, but clapped his hand with Buckley’s and shook it, smiling broadly at him.
“Be safe out there, sailor.” Eddie smiled, watching as the other man waved off the rest of his team in order to say a proper goodbye.
“You too, soldier.” He grinned and mock saluted him: “I hope if we ever see each other again it’s under better circumstances.”
