He’s been worried about meeting Zhong Xiaoyan ever since Wumei proposed the idea, a few weeks back. He’s seen the little prince around, on his first visit to Shengjing, but only in passing. Four years old and small for his age, Zhong Shili has been keeping his son away from the court. Private tutors and private quarters, one monthly outing. Xu Jin can’t really agree with isolating the boy so stringently, but he understands where the emperor’s coming from. He realises, too, that sooner or later the little prince will become Wumei’s responsibility. His own, as a matter of course.
An extra scene set just before the epilogue of The Case of the Curious Courtship.
