As much as Gray couldn’t stand being smothered in attention, Juvia loved it. Not the attention, per se, but the surety that everyone was there. She had guildmates to rely on, even if she never took the opportunity. That was evidenced by the fact that here she was, alone in her bed, curtains drawn while her friends partied it up in the guild hall.
It reminded her of how it was when she was young. The constant loneliness, how not one person truly loved her. She bounced around orphanages who didn’t want her, when the rain was just barely a mist on the hairs of her arms and her eyes took note of the smallest of details.
What a night to reflect, moonless and alone.

“Hm,” Kuya murmured. He set the pipe down on the lip of a porcelain tray and slid a folding fan from his desk. He cracked it open and shut with idle flicks of his wrist then, slapping it shut one final time, leaned closer and used the tip to lift Eiden’s chin.
Eiden shuddered but did not resist.
“You do look a bit like him,” Kuya said. He withdrew the fan and scoffed. “But to ever confuse the two of you? Ha.”
