Buried alone under his grief, his guilt, and, now, the debris of a collapsed building, Buck isn't even sure if he has the strength to move. He definitely has no idea which way to go. Then, out of the darkness, someone unexpected arrives to help him find his way out. His way home.

Buck takes a shuddering breath as he fumbles for his half-broken flashlight still buckled to his harness. It takes an age to even switch on, and when it does it flickers more often than not, but it’s enough to show Buck exactly what he wants to see.
Beyond the intermittent light that illuminates every particle of dust still circling in the air, Buck can see a man’s face watching him. He frowns, and the smile the man gives him in return is kind. Fond, even. Familiar.
“Cap?”
“Hey kid.”
