If he was a true Vulcan, Spock thinks, he would not permit this- a human clutching to his back, his breath in his ear, his heartbeat beating soft against his own. Or if he did, it would be through strict and well-thought logic. He would be fully convinced of the wisdom of his position, intellectual and physical.
No Vulcan would need to hold back a smile, however slight, when a friend - a friend - asks for a quick ride home, the most platonic of favors. No Vulcan would hold so still, afraid to even breathe, as a fellow colleague takes a much-needed rest in his presence. He has never lacked proof of his deficiencies, and yet right now he can think of nothing else.

Summary
Julian had been susceptible to hanahaki disease, a rare illness where flowers that fed on the patient’s feelings of unrequited love grew in their lungs until they eventually suffocated, from the first time he fell in love. That incident had ended with him being taken in for surgery, despite his fear of doctors and his melodramatic proclamation that he’d rather die than have his love for Sarah removed delivered with all the knowing conviction a twelve year old could muster. He’d survived, but sometimes he still had dreams where flower petals would spill from his lips.
When Julian was finally released from solitary and saw that Garak had arrived, he felt a warmth in his chest, followed immediately by a twinge of pain. His stomach clenched with dread. Of course the disease would take root in his deep feelings for the clever Cardassian.
