Richie pauses, hand lodged in the Miscellaneous Garbage Drawer as he tries to land a grasp on their spare key. He needs to start putting it somewhere other than the same drawer they use to store broken lighters and mostly-empty boxes of matches. Somewhere easily accessible, like a key hook. Or maybe one of those little bowls old people use.

“I already changed the tickets. You should change your passwords.”
Richie blinks, outraged. “I told you to stop going through my emails!”
Andy gives him a look like yeah, and? which is on-brand, for his kid. “So make better life choices than leaving your phone unlocked and crisis puking at eight in the morning, dude.”

Over the tannoy, an announcement. Something about a gate change for a Delta Airline flight. Nothing important. Pulled out of this moment of pure focus, Eddie falters and loses any semblance of the bravery Richie so passionately ascribed him in the sewers.
He stabs the cuttlefish with one chopstick and shoves it into his mouth.
Maybe he should have written Richie a fucking letter. It would have been easy enough to slip that into his jacket pocket when he isn't looking, or at least easier than having to look him in the eyes over plates of sushi and say, Hey, bro, I'm in love with you.
He probably shouldn't call him bro while he says it.
"Nothing," he says, feeling like an idiot. "Never mind."

Eddie quickly realized how much he enjoyed swimming, and it was a unique comfort that he had never really experienced. The most he’d been swimming was as a kid when he’d glide around the quarry. He missed that feeling, of feeling weightless and free.
Richie enjoyed watching him, calmed by the sight of him moving smoothly through the water. He also enjoyed watching him because Eddie looked good. So good that Richie was starting to lose his sanity.
