Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.

“Look at you,” Eddie said in awe.
Buck was flushed and desperate looking down at him, his heaving breaths flexing in the bonds of the rope. Eddie committed that picture to memory for later and vowed to sketch it until it was perfect in his book. He would’ve done it right then and there but now that he’d had a taste, Eddie couldn’t bring himself to stop.
“Pretty as a picture,” Eddie praised and Buck heaved out a breath through his teeth.

The dreams start when he’s six.
TK’s parents have never believed in dreams, right from when he was born. He’s been told that dreams are for weaklings, that if he wants to grow up to be a strong firefighter like his father that he can’t dream ever. And if he does dream, he needs to tell them straight away so they can help him to overcome his weakness.

He has warned TK that if he does not find a husband by the end of the year, he will arrange a marriage, as Owen cannot by law bequeath his fortune upon his death unless his son is married. TK is displeased with having to hurry his decision to wed. Truly at his heart, he is a romantic and wishes to marry for love. It’s just that love has been hard to come by with the flighty boys of his set back home in New York. He’s not holding out hope for any prospects in whatever back country they’re traveling to either.

Growing up as Sam Avery's son wasn't easy for TK. His abusive upbringing left him with a wealth of trauma that he couldn't bring himself to face, even as an adult, but for all the bad, TK's life in Austin brought him a lot of good. He married his high school sweetheart, Carlos, and he became a firefighter like he had always dreamt he would be. But for all he had managed to make something of his life, there's still a hurt, lost child inside TK, a child who wants to found, and mostly, that child wants to be loved.
