Eddie was singing about him.
Song after song, he was singing about Steve. He breathed shallowly, his hands shaking. Eddie couldn’t be singing about someone else, could he? It was pretty clear - hazel eyes and broad shoulders, star crossed lovers, a house in Hawkins. It had to be Steve. He ran to the phone before he could think it over.
“Eddie?”
“Steve? Is everything all right?”
“It’s about me. You wrote songs about me.”
For a second, Eddie was silent. “I wrote the entire album for you.”

“Shit,” Eddie mutters.
In the doorway to the bedroom, Steve scrubs at his eyes and runs a hand through his hair. If it’s possible, he looks even more tired and rumpled than Eddie. He’s wearing a pastel sweatshirt and old gym shorts and his hair is flat on the right and sticking out at odd angles on the left.
“Jesus, Henderson. I thought I heard your voice,” Steve grumbles. “What are you doing here?”

Summary
“Okay, fine. You win.” Which is a direct translation to those three important words, because Eddie hates losing. One of his top ten least favorite things in this world is losing.
He folds Steve’s fingers into a fist, kisses over every knuckle. Looks up to see Steve blinking slowly, half-asleep. Looks happy.
And damn, that makes it all worth it, right? Losing so Steve can win. That makes it tolerable, almost enjoyable, for a soft expression like that.
