The Abyss spans endlessly in every direction Childe looks. Barren, scarred lands, and crumbled ruins pulse with the dark, oppressing miasma corrupting everything it touches. In the distance, hidden from sight he can hear the monsters shuffling and groaning.
It looks so much like one of his nightmares, but he knows in his bones this time it's real. It isn’t much of a surprise. He always knew he’d end up down here again anyway.

After Scaramouche slips through his fingers in Inazuma, Childe finds himself back in the Abyss. Only something doesn’t seem quite right.

Light burns through his closed eyelids, dressing up his vision in bright, sprawling colors. He squints, makes an annoyed noise. He had no idea death would be this obnoxious.
Then, something that feels suspiciously like a giant muzzle nudges against his chest, and his eyes snap open.
Rex Lapis stands before him, in his radiance. The dragon eyes him in an unimpressed fashion. Childe is convinced that no dragon should have the right to seem this judgmental.
You are a fool, says Rex Lapis, says Zhongli, his words touching Childe’s mind with no need to be spoken aloud, if you think I would let you die so easily.

Reading the god awful book was one thing, but getting reborn into the world of the novel in the body of Morax-the cold and beautiful Xian Sheng of a young Childe was not something he signed up for. While Morax may have had the incredible power of an archon , he is destined to fall ,alongside Liyue, at the hands of the protagonist for his ignorance.Zhongli has only one goal: get into Childe's good grace, and save those that Morax once loved, even if he has to suffer the villain's fate himself.

Perhaps when Childe knew of his identity in just a few days, Zhongli could finally confess. When his Gnosis was in the Tsaritsa's hands, and he was free from his duties at last. In the meantime, he would indulge himself with Childe's company, though the feelings in his chest gnawed at him.
Childe knew of his identity the whole time, had known since the previous year's Rite of Descension, and had already resolved that he could not take his Gnosis. How could he, when he had fallen in love with Zhongli?
As the Exuvia's death comes and goes, Zhongli starts to wonder - when is the Eleventh Harbinger going to make his move?
Meanwhile, Childe starts to wonder - how long will it take before the Tsaritsa notices he has no intention of completing his mission?

“I know,” Zhongli interrupts, swallowing the rest of Childe’s words in a kiss. It’s not enough, Childe thinks. He presses their bodies closer, closer, and bites his lips to stifle his sounds as Zhongli enters him with a fatal slowness. “You’ll have me, Childe,” Zhongli says, as breathless as the way Childe feels. “You’ll have me.”
Childe arrives in Liyue searching for an Archon's metaphorical heart.

Summary
For all of his imagined reconciliation scenarios — yelling, fighting, falling into bed together — Childe has never considered hearing Zhongli tell him that he loves him. Reading the words on the page, as simple as they are and as seemingly easy it was for Zhongli to write them so matter-of-factly, stuns him.
Because of course he loves Zhongli. That’s why his betrayal and lies still hurt so much.
Zhongli confesses his love to Childe in a series of letters asking his forgiveness. Post-Liyue arc.
