Summary
As they move through the carrier towards the debriefing room, it’s silent. They turn a corner, and Hangman is standing there. Bob closes his eyes for a moment, expecting the worst to come out of his mouth. He looks between the two men walking towards him. Well, Bob is still walking, but Rooster had frozen under his glare. Hangman moves quickly, walking towards his Guide and wrapping his arms around him. He's whispering comforting words in Bob’s ear, telling him how amazing he is, how none of this is his fault, he talked Rooster back, just like he’d done for him plenty of times in the past. It makes Bob feel a little less like a failure in that moment. He presses a kiss to the side of his head before glaring over his shoulder at Rooster.
He’s mad at Rooster for making his Bob feels like this. Realistically, Hangman is all too aware that he’s their Bob now, but he was his first.

Then Hangman is telling him to follow her, and it takes a moment for him to blink out of his reverie. He scrambles out his seat and Phoenix barks out a laugh. No one knows who else is going on the mission, but they all know that Mac will be one of those pilots. A lot of them would be lying if they said that they hadn’t known that from the minute she walked into the Hard Deck that first night. While all of them were cocky pilots, outwardly so, Mac was just confident. The rest of them were quick to try and discredit each other's abilities, trying to make themselves seem bigger and badder, but she just simply let her flying do the talking. However, with her being a guarantee to fly, it means there’s a guarantee that she might not come back, so maybe that affords her a few little luxuries.
