Summary
The Mortal Realm and Infernal Realm exist alongside one another and it's a well known fact. Mortals have taken advantage of this by allowing demons to emigrate only through work-release programs with trained summoners - requiring a period of indentured servitude before they become full citizens, conditions dependent on the bargains they enter into. Some demons are clever enough to swindle their summoners into easy contracts, and Alastor thought he was just such a demon.
Roo was more cunning than he gave her credit for, however. Her contract was indefinite and could only be broken if Alastor could speak and mean three little words: "I love you".
There's only one problem with that - Everyone knows that demons don't have hearts.

He's the last gasp of a drowning victim. He's the life and death of every creature to ever know birth or death in the silt of the riverways. Alastor's been his disciple since he was young, one bound to the land and one to the waters.
