Summary
Bdubs looked upwards and took as deep a breath as he possibly could of that college town air— fresh and full of hope and despair and sweat and weed and sex and alcohol and desperation and misguided faith and clumsy independence and freedom. He imagined that he was filling every possible crevice in his lungs until they ached, like those videos of people shooting alcohol ink into resin to make the free association of flowers, and then added a little air more. He held it for a second, digging his teeth into his lip, before breathing out through his mouth, pretending he was a dragon exhaling fire.
Cleo tapped the side of his boot with her knuckle. "Whatcha doin' up there, bud?"
"Saying hi to the stars," he responded easily.

The impact that that suggestion sent through Mumbo's body was almost as strong as that of the one of him hitting the floor only minutes ago, shocking him out of the last of his tears. "I— I— I'm not regressed, Grian!" he sputtered shrilly.
Grian quirked an eyebrow. "Aren't you, though?"
He may as well have stabbed Mumbo with a sword.

Damn, he'd probably spent a few seconds too long staring at Ren's neck, hadn't he? What was the appropriate amount of time to stare at a sexual partner's neck?
Did Ren even know the scar was there? It wasn't like they had any mirrors around. Could he feel it? Did it still hurt?
Ren grasped Martyn's fingers and brought them up to his mouth, kissing them softly. "It's okay, Martyn."
Something flared deep in Martyn's gut at the way that Ren said his name.

Etho sighed. They could talk about the nature of art for hours. "I have to go to work," he said. "I should be back before dinner. I can bring you those mashed potatoes that you like." He traced his finger along the side of his mug. "Maybe… maybe you can draw something for me? While I'm gone?"
Bdubs sideeyed him. "Selfish. You just want free commissions."
"Not free! I'm paying in mashed potatoes."
"That you get for free," Bdubs mumbled. But he had put down the mug and picked up a pencil, twisting it slowly between his fingers. "If I were to draw you something, what would you want?"
