Summary
“You’ve tried to fix it?” Kitami asks, turning to face her, peeking over the cabinet door.
Nomamoto blinks at him. “What?”
“Like. Fix it,” Kitami repeats, as though that actually says anything more.
Nomamoto shrugs. “Dunno how.”

Summary
Miles is the one who makes the ugly choices and is able to live with them. Miles is very, very good at making the calls that make other people, other kindred, recoil in disgust, ask how he could sink so low. Someone has to be willing to cross a few lines in pursuit of something grander, and Miles is just far gone enough morally to do it without breaking himself in the process.

They’ve technically talked plenty since Flop stumbled into town and pressed that letter into his hands, but in the kind of way where they’d both said a lot and not meant anything. Or really, Flop had talked a lot, and Ziggy had listened.

Summary
It’s the same every time. Rhodes’ stern insistence to stop turns to apathy turns to shamefully giving in, and suddenly they’ve shoved themselves into an MRPD closet or the back of an SUV or in some alleyway smelling of cigarette smoke, and Rhodes tells him this is the last time, Kyle before he catches Pred’s lips with his own again.

Rhodes,
It’s good to hear from you. Thanks for the congratulations. It’s wild country out here, but we’re taming it, slowly but surely. They’d be lost without me at the helm, I guarantee it. I miss the city at times, but out here, I can be better recognized for the work that I do.

“Well, shit.” Deputy Buggs swings his legs off the desk and stands, and Flop is once again struck with surprise, this time by how tall the man is. “That’s me.”
