    Up close, without the mask, Oscar looks unbearably young — younger than Lando now, Lando thinks distantly, though Orion never let them keep track of birthdays. Even though he’d never thought of Oscar like that, mostly because Oscar always had his walls up and his mask on. Never let any sign of weakness slip.

    Not like Lando. Lando had been weak. He’d cried a lot. He feels like crying now, but funnily enough, now that it is allowed, his eyes are all dry.

    Oscar looked genuinely confused. "Yes. I found you first."

     

    "And?"

     

    "And you're mine."

     

    Lando stared at him. "That's not how it works."

     

    Oscar tilted his head. "Strange. It worked when I found a pretty shell."
