get luke a bantha 2k25 😭
this fic is so me-coded that i don't know how to write a bookmarker's rec that's not just entirely self-indulgent and so i shan't even try! this is child-character-writing at its finest; luke and cody's relationship is the emotional heart of the narrative, and what a heart it is! the author is so tender and attentive towards the love and trust they've developed, and i soaked up every trauma-response ritual and parenting technique in this story like i was the thirstiest and most desiccated sponge in the world. the tone takes its turns at being funny and heartfelt and sobering, and the plot hovers at just the right distance above the character work. obi-wan's diction is flawless. rex is there. it just doesn't get better than this.
in terms of warnings, expect canon typical violence, sometimes towards kids!

immaculate, unbelievable, incredible -- not least because it's like an entirely original new season of GBBO available right now, for free!!
this fic displays ironnnnn clad control of the OFMD characters, which you need when you're dropping them into such a recognizable AU that contrasts so deeply with the show's original setting. i love the idea of ed being a GBBO savant through both talent and research; his devotion to the franchise and to baking feels simultaneously worn-out and central-to-his-identity in a way that resonates soooo closely with his canon self. and stede as the late-comer zumba zaddy is also blissfully true-to-form. and i'm OBSESSED with that this author does with "wait, how old was he really??" israel hands, lol.
loads of fun and extremely immersive. ups and downs for days. A ROMP!!!!

kingdom of heaven (c. 2005) + sir gawain and the green knight (c. 1350-1400) LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO
there's something so frog-on-a-lily-pad about obi-wan and qui-gon in this AU. like. "yes! you guys ARE medieval knights!! you live there! 🥲" and it's fantastic how this story carefully unfolds its narrative; you understand so much about the world, immediately and intuitively, but we also get dribs and drabs of information that nuance that world and the characters' places within it. also it's so hot, lol.
i'll offer an all-purpose warning for explorations of uneven power dynamics, but these get turned delightfully on their head ❤️

Admittedly, this is not the first time Luke has wound up at someone else’s kitchen table in someone else’s clothes. But it’s not breakfast, Luke’s not an undergrad scarfing down bacon and eggs to cure the common hangover, and Din doesn’t strike him as the kind of guy he’d meet at a house party. The baby is definitely a first.
Luke is a grad student trying to finish his linguistics PhD after an unexpected leave of absence. His neighbor, Din, is a single dad and delivery guy at Pizza Parsec.
(Actually, Pizza Parsec is just a front for the bounty hunters' guild. But Luke doesn't need to know that.)

godddddd i love this one so much. ouugh. ughh. uogh. i'm taking poison damage from how much i like this fic 😭
i really relish the mood and atmosphere of this whole story, transmitted through luke as our POV character. his narration completely captures that lighthearted-yet-fatalistic mindset inherent to being a twentysomething -- not to mention being a grad student (it's such a specific life situation, and one that i found represented so perfectly in this fic, being something of a recovering grad student myself). luke's lifestory, and the way he grows closer with din and grogu, unspools in such a charming way, with so many little moments that stick with you. for instance, there's this point at which luke is betting on podracing and flirting with din at a bounty hunter party and it always just hits me like "gah. i want to live inside this moment ;_____;"
huge kudos as well for the characterization, lovingly transformed to suit the worldbuilding, which is also immaculate: the various star wars worlds are translated into countries and regions on one single planet. it's giving deep dish nine, if anyone is familiar!!
heads up for some injury and injury recovery material, and lol yes if you were or are a grad student, this may put you back in that world for a hot second 😂
