A turtle. All angles and elbows, neon cutting sharp against the void. Two streams of blood marked his face, hidden under a blue mask. Leo?
Mikey slammed into him, wincing as he took in the bruises, the odd angles. The turtle blinked, eyes almost swollen shut.
“M'key?” He mumbled, before he tensed all up and grabbed Mikey by the shoulders, “Mikey! Nonono- you can't-” Mikey couldn't help but reach back, cupping Leo's face in his hands. They weren't blood, they were stripes. A Leo, turtle, blue mask, but.. not his Leo. Leo's eyes, fuzzy with pain, scanned over him fully.
“..you're.. you're not…” He breathed. Mikey shook his head, mask tails swinging and miserable. He wasn't. “You can't be here!” Mikey's mouth trembled,
“I dunno..”, he gasped, “I dunno.”

He should be getting up! It was two hours after he usually got out of bed. He had to make breakfast. Donnie wouldn't eat if he didn't get up, he had to leave a trail with coffee beans as it is. Leo wouldn't leave his room unless Mikey dragged him by the mask tails. Raph would wander around like a stray cat, a weird combo of anger and avoidance, if Mikey didn't coax him to the table. And breakfast wouldn't go well unless he was there, sitting between Raph and Leo so they wouldn't bump elbows. Both literally and figuratively.
Or
Mikey has a bad time. Donnie helps. This is set right before the invasion.

There was a familiar swooping feeling that Sal had gotten from falling through the portal a few days ago, although not nearly so disorienting since unlike before he was on his own two feet. Remembering his instructions from Mariko, Sal kept moving even though he couldn’t see anything past the spinning void of pink and green and blue, Lou close behind him. Their shoes made noise as they came in contact with some kind of ground, but before Sal could even begin to think of what it could be, he and Lou were blinking under the bright bioluminescent glow of the Hidden City streetlights.
Also unlike before, was the friendlier face there to greet them. “Welcome back, Mr. Munroe. Hamato-san.” Mariko said with a smile.
