Summary
After the events of 'A Glimmer of Light Refusing to Fade,' Will, Mike, and the Party are all battle-worn, exhausted, and half-grown-up - not to mention ready for their NDA deals to carry them into an easy life of peace, luxury, and recovery.
...but, of course, that doesn't happen. Whether it's the Upside Down following them and haunting whatever city they live in the same as it haunted Hawkins or just trying to survive after what they have, it's never going to be easy.

Summary
When the Byers move to California, Will is lonely, bullied, and struggling with his mental health. When Mike comes to visit, he notices that something is off, but doesn’t know what’s wrong or how to help while his best friend feels so far away even though he's physically there. However, maybe Mike finds the answer after they are brought closer than ever after El is abducted by the government and they end up facing capture, interdimensional monsters, torture, the past, their own feelings, and attempting to prevent the apocalypse. (Post-s3, rewriting s4, and predicting s5).

Summary
Will is a young gay man committed to Lazarus by his own father. Traumatized and alone, he’s assigned to Cell 44, right next to Cell 45, where Mike lives.
Mike is infamous: violent, isolated, feared by everyone.
Throughout conversations in between the wall at night — Will learns more about Mike— the cruelty of him.
Mike teaches Will breathing techniques through panic attacks.
But as Mike pushes Will away, a tension between them only grows stronger -

“I just- I don’t understand why he has to come, is all.”
“Mike,” Lucas said over the phone. Exasperated. “They’ve been together for two years. Of course, he’s going to come.”
Mike took what felt like his hundredth breath during their short conversation. “Right. But like, I thought the idea was to keep it small. You know… only the people who know. To keep El safe.”
Or: 5 years after the epilogue, Lucas and Max are getting married and have invited the Party and company to stay at his grandfather's lake house the week leading up to it. Everything is great, except that Will is bringing his boyfriend.

Summary
The smile that spreads across Mike’s face is involuntary, like it must exist in Will’s presence. It’s like he waters the parched soil of his mind.
