Claps and excited shouting erupted from the audience. It was similar to when Till stepped onto the stage back in the show, the sound of death looming closer as he was forced to sing just so he could survive. It was sickening.
It was even more unbearable that now he had to see the corpse of Ivan being auctioned like he was a mere object.

Till lived post-Round 7 and joined the rebels just to later found out that even after he died, Ivan still suffered the same fate as when he was still alive: being treated as a money-making merchandise.

Summary
Sitting beside Havers in the firelight, the Captain finds himself wishing this were a daily occurrence. That, rather than sharing a barracks, the two of them shared a home, where they could drink their Ovaltine and listen to the wireless as a matter of course. Where Havers would look at the Captain with that open, happy expression on his face, his eyes crinkled with laughter, and know that the Captain loves him.
For that is what this is. The Captain feels himself blanch, glad that the light of the flickering fire should at least conceal that much. He does not merely desire Havers, as he desired those other men in his youth. That would be bad enough; this is worse. I love him, the Captain repeats, devastated. He’s never experienced the emotion before, but nevertheless, he can recognise it.

Charles' grin quickly dissolves into something solemn and thoughtful. "I absolutely hated it, mate."
Edwin hums in agreement. He supposed he didn't love the ending of Orpheus and Eurydice's tale either.

Edwin stumbled and choked on a laugh. Charles kept a solid hold on him so he wouldn’t fall. “What exactly do you call this style?”
“It’s an underground dance,” Charles said dismissively. “Doesn’t have a name. It was all the rage in my day though, trust me.”
Edwin laughed out loud this time. “Of course, I forgot about the ballroom dance craze of 1987.”
“Exactly. Now hold on!” Edwin knew Charles well enough by now to intuit what he meant, and he latched onto Charles’ shoulder with a death grip just before Charles dipped him low to the ground.
“You’re going to drop me!” he sputtered. Charles laughed and hauled him back up. They both knew full well that Charles would do no such thing. Edwin just liked to act scandalized for the fun of it.
“Have I ever dropped you before?” Charles asked smugly, falling back into a two-step.
“There’s a first time for everything,” Edwin retorted.

Edwin clears his throat, but this time no petals follow. “Certainly it’s nothing to worry about.”

Loving Edwin was the easiest thing in the world. Charles got so used to it that he could sometimes go months without thinking about it, until Edwin did something kind or charming or literally just stood there catching the light in exactly the right way, and it would hit Charles all over again, like getting socked in the face. It certainly made for some interesting decades together.
Or: Charles falls first. Edwin falls harder. Surprisingly little changes.
