He avoided the library, once a favorite refuge, and took to owl-ordering any books he didn’t already own, because she was sure to be set up at whichever table was nearest the aisle he needed. She would have piles of books spread across the entirety of the surface of the table, stacks of them on the chairs, her fingers smudged with ink, her brow furrowed and her bottom lip pinned between her teeth. A quick summary (hopefully not giving too much away): In book 1, Hermione completes an honors project in her seventh year at Hogwarts. The subject is Potions, the advisor is Professor Snape. Book 2 finds Hermione at college for two years, and as the wizarding world faces some hard times, Hermione has to deal with the fact that she feels helpless. She and Snape remain in contact, and begin to realize that they need each other. In book 3, Hermione returns to Hogwarts as the new Arithmancy professor. She and Snape begin to work on different Potions projects together, and fall in love (natch), while Snape--and later Hermione--work to track down Lucius Malfoy.
