Ilya sucks his bottom lip in between his teeth and bites down, eyes flicking to the ceiling like he’s summoning some kind of divine strength. He draws in one long breath and releases it, meeting Shane’s gaze again. “I am dumb, horny rookie. I need to be taught a lesson. I hear you are best captain in NHL, yes?”

It occurs to me in moments like this that domesticity has somehow managed to creep up on both of us. But here we are. We don’t really talk about it. The same way we’re not supposed to talk about Fight Club, but admittedly we probably talk more about that than about the state of our relationship.
