Summary
Barty never liked Evan’s girlfriends before: they always were commanding and demanding, a bit too possessive of Evan, way too conscious of his status. Most of the time, he could say they were trouble before they even opened their mouths; he could tell by the way their eyes travelled down his body with a smirk, or how their hands lingered on his arms, or how they would do everything they could to keep his attention on them.
And, the thing, with girlfriends, is that they come and go.

Summary
Seresin men love with reckless abandon. It’s put every man before him in the ground.
Jake refuses to be buried.
He flies like he has nothing left to lose (he doesn’t), a one man army (he is), leaving everyone else in the dust (so they don’t leave him). Admiral Kazansky claps him on the shoulder, says he expects great things from him, and Jake’s smile is feral as the rest of his flight school cohort looks on in disbelief.
Hangman, they all say, like Jake’s entire personality was a long con, and he ranks first in class.
Rooster doesn’t look at all.
(They've got history spanning the better part of a decade and they are absolutely, positively not over it.)

Neil thought that his publicity agent had learned better than to leave him unsupervised in front of a microphone of any description, but apparently not. Either that or she considers Kevin to be the supervision, which could be an error of career-ending magnitude.
Neil steps in as Kevin's co-host and it goes about as well as expected.
