Book 2: Earth: After the Gaang escaped from Crown Princess Azula's clutches with the help of Prince Iroh, Dragon of the West, the team seeks out a town to recuperate. Toph talks to a mistreated captive at the market square. As the truth comes out, it becomes increasingly obvious that the maxim "It is said to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" runs true. With Exiled Prince Zuko unwittingly taken in by the Avatar and his companions, his understanding of the war, and the ways people have been afflicted by it, change forever. But will he heed his mothers words, and remember who he truly is? A tale of a fall, and a hard won redemption.

A take on the premise of what would have happened if Itachi had taken Sasuke with him after the Massacre, combined with a component of slavery existing in the Narutoverse:
Forcefully separated, Sasuke finds himself wishing back the time when he thought he'd hated Itachi, if it just meant to know if his brother was still alive. Being faced with slavery and having to interact with people all while keeping his identity secret, slipping up is all too easy. That he could possibly gain a friend or two out of this hasn't even crossed his mind.
Suspended from her job at the hospital, Sakura has to deal with an unusual mission. Despite not understanding why, she does as ordered and gets a slave situated in her home, just like the loyal shinobi she is. Keeping everyone at distance, she tries to live on, but with another person living in her apartment, it's only a matter of time until confrontation happens.

Summary
The trip to town had been about resupplying. Zuko hadn’t reckoned on being recognized, much less captured by some Earth Kingdom town. He’d been avoiding society after his experience with Lee’s family, but he’d been running out of food for himself and the ostrich horse. And it wasn’t like it was anything new that life threw all kinds of difficulties at him, but being the Prince of the enemy nation, regardless of his status as traitor, made them hate him all the more. Now they had him, weakened and bound, and they were growing bolder.
