Summary
Childe never wanted to kill anyone.
Forced by the dire need to provide for his family, he had no choice but to join the infamous Fatui. Climbing the ranks, the criminal organisation offers him the job of a lifetime - assassinate Rex Lapis, the most powerful man in Liyue. Childe is an excellent marksman and had shown his prowess time and time again, making this near-impossible job impossible to refuse.
He has the notoriously charismatic Rex Lapis at his mercy in his crosshairs when a momentary blunder in concentration renders him unconscious.
He wakes blindfolded and bound with only survival on his mind, struggling against both his restraints and own will to make it out alive. Only wanting to return home successful, he comes face to face with his target who suspiciously has no killing intent. Summary
Childe got rid of his mark long ago. He doesn't care about fate, about soulmates, about how the stars kind of know who your soul might find peace with. Most people need peace while Childe needs chaos: one can't truly fight back when one's soul is not on constant alert.
Now that he urgently needs to get his mark back because of those new snezhnayan bills, his best option is to ask an old friend from Liyue for some guidance and trust the process—Zhongli's presence has always been quite grounding for him anyway.
